Game Idea Research

Last week I brainstormed some different game ideas. This blog will be about one of those ideas and it will be the type of game I would enjoy working on for the rest of the semester and I will be focusing on the three possible game mechanics ideas that I know would work well for this assignment.

The game idea I am going to focus on will be a puzzle game, my third game idea from the Game Brainstorm blog. This game idea was inspired by all the games I played and used to have on my phone. I want to create a game that's challenging but also fun to play. A game where the setting is in the sky and you have to move a box or something where it's supposed to be but there will be something trying to make you lose and think of your next move. Each level getting more difficult.

The three or more game mechanics/rules ideas, I was thinking that would work well for the game is:

  1. Instant death - Something causing the player to die instantly, maybe an spikes or a person/creatures
  2. Uncountable number of possible paths - Have a few obvious places to go, a number of possible ways to order your movement quickly becomes thousands or millions of possible ways and its not obvious which is not bad.
  3. Mouse dexterity - Player must move the mouse in a specify way without making errors. The mouse is usually reserved for looking around or menu selections
  4. Timed - Player must achieve a task within a time limited. Some power ups or achievements can extend the time.

  1. Hey Nhu!
Your puzzle game sounds like a lot of fun. Having an instant death mechanic would be cool. I think it would really help with making the game more difficult for people. I like that you chose this type of game because I think puzzle games are really fun, especially when they are challenging.

  2. Hi Nhu, i really like your game idea! I think it would become very addictive and would definitely get the player addicted to the game. I like the game mechanics/rules, they would all equally make the player want to try beat their high score and make them come back to the game. Good luck with the game, cant wait to see it.

  3. Hey Nhu,
Im really happy you chose this game idea it sounds like so much fun. The instant death mechanic will work perfectly for this game it will make the game more exciting for players and a little bit more difficult. I like that you are going to use mouse dexterity its really cool and something that will also make the game super enjoyable and addictive to play. I wonder what type of objects will be used in your game are they going to be super colourful and unique. What if you made some filler levels where you could collect special prizes that could help throughout the game. What if you had the prizes be important to the players total score for example if they found the special prize it would give them more time on a certain level or maybe even skip a level completely, that might be interesting.

Unity Free Tutorials

For now on unity tutorials will be about what I am going to add in for my game. Watching tutorials video will help me create the game I want to make.  I already have a problem with my menu page. I follow everything from the video but it says I have an error. This is one of the reasons why I don't want to become a game designer.  I don't like coding, it just confusing and I don't really get what is going on but hopefully, over time I know the basic coding. The video below, I had a problem adding in the TextMesh Pro. TextMesh Pro is just making the text clearer. Since I am having a problem with add that in I decided to leave it out. Other than that, the tutorial helped. This was another tutorial video I watched.

Unity Tutorial 01

After watching tutorial of Unity, I am excited to use it and make a game for this module and see if I like doing this or not. It looks complicated but at the same time it doesn't, hopefully I will be able to make a game that I love and other people would enjoy it as well. I learned how to make a mountain or dips for lakes. It's not as hard as it seems, all you had to do it go and select the object "Terrian" then pick a brush and change the brush size and opacity to whatever you want. After selecting the size you wanted, to make a mountain all you had to do was click to raise and to make a dip for a lake all you had to do was shift and click to lower. It's pretty easy.  Adding in texture is more work but I say it would be really easy once you get the hang of it. The website  JV Unity  had a file for texture and all you had to do was download that file and drag it or import it into the unity project you are working on and it would be there. After you import it...

Workshop 01

Traffic Light Exercise In this blog, I am going to talk about the traffic light and it wasn’t really something I am familiar with, I didn’t really know how it works when the traffic light is broken but I did know that the car one the right-hand side always goes first since it’s similar to how roundabout works It was new for me since I haven’t done or study the theories questions yet. I learned that when two cars don’t cross paths and is just going straight ahead then the pedestrians from south and north can go and cross the road. It also works both ways like north and south ore east and west.   Roundabout.  Source:  Wikimedia How I felt about the delivery method was helpful and I learned more when I started to talk to the person next to me. When we were working in groups was easy but difficult at the same time. I like working in group because I learned from one another. What I didn’t like about it was that some of us didn’t know how traffic ...
