Game Vision Statement

Zoobe is what the name for the puzzle and adventure game I want to design.  It is a game where you are an animal, in a shape of a box and trying to escape from the zoo without getting caught but the humans or traps.

The background story for this game is that one night the animal decided that they want to get away and out of the zoo and be free. Some nights after, one of the animal's gate was left unlock and left their "home" behind them. Since all the animals wanted to be free and actually go back to the jungle. The animal that escape went to get the key for the gate, with the help of other animals trying to get the zoo keeper drop the key to all the gates.

To play this game, you are the animal who's gate was left unlock and have to get the key to open the other gates for the animal. The animal can't move by itself so you have to move them yourself without getting caught by the zookeeper or traps. To free the animal you either have to move them to the box that is highlighted outside the zoo's gate.

The game will have a timer, it will either be how long you can escape the animal or see if you can complete the level at a certain time. It will also have instant lose when you go near the traps or the zookeepers.  You will have different ways to go past or around the traps and zookeepers. You can look around the place and think of you next move but using the mouse to look around or click on the menu selections.

  1. Nhu,

I just read through your blog post that outlines your chosen game idea. I found your game idea to be very interesting indeed. I liked that you thought of backstory for your game as I haven't see anyone else doing that as of yet. the wow moment for me is when you can get an instant lose if the player goes near the traps or the zoo keeper. I think this is quite a clever idea to do as it will make the game more enjoyable yet challenging. What if you had a results chart where the player could record how long it took them to finish a level? This may make it more interesting for the player because they will be competing to try to get better times. I wonder what the game will look like visually? Whats the theme of the game going to be? Overall I found your game idea very interesting and I can't wait to see how you develop your ideas further.

  2. Hey Nhu! This is a great post that really goes into detail discussing what your game is about and how the gameplay works. I really like the story of the game with the animal trying to avoid being caught by humans or traps. The background story is really interesting to me I can understand why the animal would want to escape back into the jungle. I wonder what the different ways to go around the traps and zookeepers will be? Will they be able to collect any tools to help them escape? The timer is a good idea but how much time will the animal have to escape and complete the level? What will the menu selections consist of? I really like this game idea it's so unusual. I like how you added in a background story about why the animal wants to escape. I'm looking forward to see your game develop even further, great post!

  3. Hi Nhu,
I've read through your game vision and your game idea is very interesting. I really like that you've added a backstory of your game in this post because it helps to get the feel of what the game is about and what you have to do in order to complete it. The idea of the animals having to escape the zoo while avoiding humans and traps sounds really fun! I can understand why the animals wound want to get out of the zoo and back into the jungle. I think the part with the timer is exciting because it puts pressure on the players to escape before time runs out. How much time will you have to escape the zoo?
Overall, I think this is a very strong game vision that consists both of a good idea and detailed gameplay. I'm looking forward to see how your game develops!

  4. Hi Nhu! Your game idea sounds really cool! It is clear that you put a lot of thought into it. I like your idea because it highlights the topic of zoo's. In today's society, our attention tends to be on other things happening in the world, I don't think zoo's and animal welfare is talked about enough so I'm glad your highlighting the topic. I like how your game is a strategic game. I always find those games really fun to play. Will the timer be displayed on screen at all times or will it just come up when you have 10 seconds left? This could add even more pressure to the player in game play. How far away from the zookeepers can you be without getting caught? I think this is a really original game idea and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

  5. Hi Nhu, just read your post. Your idea for a puzzle and adventure game sounds rather interesting and the backstory sounds very unique and actually has a message to it. Looking at the post you really put in alot of thought into this idea and really have a passion for it. The fact the goal is to free the animals from captivity and let them back out into the wild gives the game and player a good objective to strive for and shows that animals deserve freedom. Cant wait to see more of this, it has so much potential and the backstory reall makes it. Good luck with it.

Unity Free Tutorials

For now on unity tutorials will be about what I am going to add in for my game. Watching tutorials video will help me create the game I want to make.  I already have a problem with my menu page. I follow everything from the video but it says I have an error. This is one of the reasons why I don't want to become a game designer.  I don't like coding, it just confusing and I don't really get what is going on but hopefully, over time I know the basic coding. The video below, I had a problem adding in the TextMesh Pro. TextMesh Pro is just making the text clearer. Since I am having a problem with add that in I decided to leave it out. Other than that, the tutorial helped. This was another tutorial video I watched.

Multimedia Project Presentation

Today we presented our game 'Tiny Farm' to our year and we got the chance to look at all the other game that was made for this module. The first game I saw was Rob's game 'Monster Flip'. His game was a puzzle game, it has three different levels. when you click on one of the puzzle pieces it will rotate. You have to click the piece until it is in the right position. After you finished the level you can go back to the menu page and click on the next level. I like that the game is for kids who have autism. I enjoy playing this game because it was simple and easy to play. The next game I saw was Darragh's game 'Alien Twine Game'. His game was a story adventure game. It tells a story and you get to choose which option you would like to pick. Each option will bring you to a certain route, it depends on what and which option you pick. I enjoy playing this game because it was fun and interesting to see where you will end up at the end of the story. Battle ...

Game GDD

The articles I read was  Design Considerations  by Greg Aleknevicus,  Prototying  and  Generating Ideas . The articles talks about what a publishers can do to improve a game that does involve spending money on that maybe be worth it. The articles basically tells us that it is important to show the designers where the game is heading. They are a rough example of what the designer is planning on doing with their game to look like and it's about getting the main idea of the game across. Prototypes are used to test something out, so in this case the prototype is to test out the gameplay. Testing the game will give the designer ideas on what needs to be added or take away from the game. When designing games we must come up with the idea. It can be a basic concept idea and not fully formed.  Designing a game, we need to know what rules or system, materials , narrative and market research and ask yourself these questions What game rules led to when test...
