First Playable

For this blog post, I will talk about the first playable version of the game.

I have been working on the gates of the zoo and the cage where the animals are trapped in. I couldn't get a person to be the zookeeper, well I can be they couldn't walk and it looked dumb so instead, I used a cube and change the size of it because I didn't want it to look the same as the animals.

I didn't know how to add in a model of a key so I used one of the gems we got when watching the tutorials of Jimmy Vegas.

My past project blog post, I wanted to collect the key then free the animals with them following you behind. I felt that was too difficult to do so I decided that once you collect the key/gem you then have to go and get the animals.

Once you collect all the animals on that level and didn't die when you touched the zookeeper, there will be an open gate and outside the gate, there is a box just outside the gate. You go there and that will stop the timer, which tells you that you have completed the level and ready to go to the next one.

I had a problem making the zookeeper kill you and stop the game. I am still looking at the different videos that can help me add the instant death.  I am also looking in about making the main camera rotate. Every time I try to do both of these elements something ends up messing up like for example when I was trying to add in the instant death feature, the zookeeper keeps moving out of the floor and not the pattern I set for it to move.

  1. Hey Nhu! Wow your game looks great! Well done on the aesthetics of it. It definitely looks like a zoo. You set the scene well! It looks really 3D and really well polished. The animal is so cute. I love your idea of using cubes for the animals. I think it'll really stand out. I think that its a good idea that you changed your game idea slightly to meet your abilities. By doing this, your game development experience will be a lot more enjoyable because you'll know what your doing and you'll be confident in doing so. Hopefully you figure out how to create the instant death feature! Hopefully there's a video out there that will help you. I know that I fins the forums on the Unity website really helpful for random features like that. Hope you figure it out! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your development :)

  2. Hiya Nhu, I really love how your game is turning out, it looks really polished and well designed, I also find your animals as cubes as really cute ^_^
the idea behind the game has a lot of potential and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the game and how far you will push things but it sounds like a lot of fun running away from the zoo keeper and trying to free all the animals, at this point I don’t have a lot of suggestions to give you as you pretty much know where your headed, my only things I could say is try looking at adding in walls that spawn randomly making it harder to escape when y9ou open certain animals cages, but other than that that’s all I can think about, either way your finish game is going to be amazing, can't wait to see it finished :)

  3. Hi Nhu,
Your game is really coming along. It looks great! I can see that you have put in some thought and work behind developing your idea because your game definitely looks like a zoo. From looking at the picture, the trees and gates really add to the zoo feeling. I think it's really good that you've noticed that your initial idea might have been too difficult to complete because now after you have altered it a little bit you can focus on developing you game even further. It will also make your experience less stressful when creating the game. I think so far the game looks great but here's a suggestion. You could make the outer walls higher and made out of brick while leaving the inside have gates and fences. I think that would add to the "zoo feeling". It looks like you know the exact direction you want your game to head it and I'm looking forward to seeing where you will take it. Great job!

Unity Free Tutorials

For now on unity tutorials will be about what I am going to add in for my game. Watching tutorials video will help me create the game I want to make.  I already have a problem with my menu page. I follow everything from the video but it says I have an error. This is one of the reasons why I don't want to become a game designer.  I don't like coding, it just confusing and I don't really get what is going on but hopefully, over time I know the basic coding. The video below, I had a problem adding in the TextMesh Pro. TextMesh Pro is just making the text clearer. Since I am having a problem with add that in I decided to leave it out. Other than that, the tutorial helped. This was another tutorial video I watched.

Unity Tutorial 01

After watching tutorial of Unity, I am excited to use it and make a game for this module and see if I like doing this or not. It looks complicated but at the same time it doesn't, hopefully I will be able to make a game that I love and other people would enjoy it as well. I learned how to make a mountain or dips for lakes. It's not as hard as it seems, all you had to do it go and select the object "Terrian" then pick a brush and change the brush size and opacity to whatever you want. After selecting the size you wanted, to make a mountain all you had to do was click to raise and to make a dip for a lake all you had to do was shift and click to lower. It's pretty easy.  Adding in texture is more work but I say it would be really easy once you get the hang of it. The website  JV Unity  had a file for texture and all you had to do was download that file and drag it or import it into the unity project you are working on and it would be there. After you import it...

Workshop 01

Traffic Light Exercise In this blog, I am going to talk about the traffic light and it wasn’t really something I am familiar with, I didn’t really know how it works when the traffic light is broken but I did know that the car one the right-hand side always goes first since it’s similar to how roundabout works It was new for me since I haven’t done or study the theories questions yet. I learned that when two cars don’t cross paths and is just going straight ahead then the pedestrians from south and north can go and cross the road. It also works both ways like north and south ore east and west.   Roundabout.  Source:  Wikimedia How I felt about the delivery method was helpful and I learned more when I started to talk to the person next to me. When we were working in groups was easy but difficult at the same time. I like working in group because I learned from one another. What I didn’t like about it was that some of us didn’t know how traffic ...
